Joseph McDevitt
A graduate of LaSalle University, Joe embarked on his accounting career by joining Laventhol, Krekstein, Krekstein & Horwath the 10th largest international accounting firm at that time. After gaining invaluable experience, Joe became managing partner of Hoyt, Devine and Company, Ltd where he served for 25 years before merging to become Schalleur, Devine & Surgent, LLC in 2003. In 2010, the firm was renamed GMS Surgent. After a 44-year career as a leader in the local accounting industry, Joseph is stepping down as Managing Member of GMS Surgent and will continue to serve as an advisor to the firm.
Joe has over 44 years of broad based experience with expertise in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, financial statement preparation and taxation for individuals and businesses representing the healthcare, hospitality, wholesale distribution and manufacturing industries. He enjoys working closely with family owned businesses, where he has effectively assisted his clients with the sale of their businesses as well as assisting in transitions from generation to generation. A testament to his service and personal manner, Joe has retained a number of clients who have been with the firm for over 40 years.
A former baseball and soccer coach for 20 years, Joe was actively involved serving as a coach for FC Delco, recognized as one of the most successful soccer programs in the country. While he will continue to serve as an advisor to the firm, Joe plans to enjoy his second home in Ocean City, N.J. and he looks forward to spending more time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
